There were many causes of the Russian Revolution which involved economic, social, and political issues. There had been a previous war that weakened Russia which was World War I. It had a devastating effect on Russia, showing how weak the government was with their unequipped military, leading to them drafting 15 million farmers into battle, all of which were unprepared to fight. Violent acts had also occurred such as Bloody Sunday, in 1905. Unarmed citizens had went to St. Petersburg to address their grievances and soldiers, under order, shot down and killed many of these protestors. There were many attempts to address their grievances, but they were all disregarded and overtime as the economy went down it wasn’t the same for everyone. The peasants lived in the poorest conditions and they started riots that weren’t really acknowledged by the government, although they continued to take place. In 1905, the Tsar had claimed everything and they were under an extreme autocracy. All these events took place before the revolution, leading up to bloody conflicts that would happen during the revolution.
There had been a change in government after the revolution. There had been little violence after the revolution. The previous ruler, Tsar Nicholas II along with his family were executed, so no one would rise to power again. A treaty was also signed to end the previous war they had fought in. In 1918, the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was forced upon Russia to surrender in World War I, revealing how weak the Soviet government actually was. Russia had to give up lots of land agreed to in the signed treaty. From 1918-1920, a Civil War had been started after the Bolsheviks were revealed as weak. The Civil War lasted two years and the USSR had been overthrown. The effects had been somewhat peaceful, but also resulted in another change of government since the previous one had been proven as unsuccessful.
